Frequently Asked Questions

Is mold remediation dangerous?

While mold remediation itself is not dangerous, the process can be hazardous, this is why you should not be in the home while remediation is actively going on. If not done correctly, mold spores can easily spread through the air, so it’s important to have the right equipment and training to avoid making the problem worse

What should I do if I find mold?

If you find mold, you can try to identify a water source and turn it off, but be careful not to disturb the mold. Call us to help dry out the area and prevent further mold growth.

What are symptoms of a mold allergy?

Mold affects everyone differently, the common symptoms of a mold allergy include sneezing, a runny nose, itchy red eyes, and skin rashes. Mold can also worsen asthma symptoms. If you are unsure, you can always request us to do mold testing to find out what might be affecting your air quality.

Is it possible to get rid of 100% of the mold?

No, mold is everywhere. The air outside has mold spores floating around, so you will have mold in your home. It is less of a question of, do I have mold? More correctly, you want to know, do I have a mold problem?

I found Mold growing in my home, how do I test the Mold?

The EPA and CDC do not recommend sampling (mold testing) for Molds, when obvious mold growth is present. Since the susceptibility of individuals can vary greatly, the type is not important. If you are susceptible to Mold and if it is seen or smelled, there is a potential health risk; therefore, no matter what type of Mold is present, you should arrange for its removal.

Will covering or painting over mold solve the problem?

No, you cannot paint over mold to solve your problem. If you don’t fix the source of the mold, painting and cleaning won’t stop mold from growing back.

The mold can grow again on the painted surface and mold spores which can be invisible to the naked eye can still be present away from the area where viable growth is present.

There are actually many types of mold that like to feed on paint, also paint is attached to an organic surface (Sheetrock paper) which mold likes. Paint also has organic content, organic = mold food source.

Do you recommend a mold testing kit I can buy at a hardware store?

There are advantages to having a mold professional take samples as opposed to a using DIY kit. A professional will know where and when to take the sample, and how to interpret the results. They also have the right tools for the sampling. A DIY kit typically is a dish used to capture spores; this is not an effective method. Most of the DIY kits are also considered unhelpful as it doesn’t give any info past a yes or no answer rather than breaking down the level of the problem with a comparative test to refer to..

How to prepare for mold remediation?

To prepare for professional mold remediation, clear any areas where the mold removal professional will need to access.

If any items in the area have been affected by the mold growth, you should leave those items in the area unless your mold remediation professional has advised you otherwise. Impacted items will need to be cleaned or possibly thrown out, depending on the severity and the material of the item, but moving them or attempting to clean them yourself could potentially cause the mold to spread.
